Have I got fibromyalgia? – For five months: Physical & mental fatigue, Poor sleep (night sweats), Bad car crash.? I was innocent party in serious car crash in Feb 07 and suffered multiple leg fractures. Previous I very fit, sporty and active. Six hundred hours of physio to walk again and gradually went back to office job part-time Sep 07. Tried full-time work Jan eight but so tired (body and mind), muscle & joint pains, confused at times, migraines, IBS etc I became depressed (PTSD). On good days still went to gym with personal trainer and pushed weights! But suddenly woke one day in March eight – soaked in sweat. I've sweated EVERY night since (5 months) and also when I sleep in day (now need twelve hours sleep/day) – but dont sweat if awake unless stressed. Drs agree Im not getting quality sleep. I've no energy in day so had to give up work for four months! Im now on anti-depressants. Ive baffled Drs as had blood tests, CT scan, ECG, etc and all OK. Seeing Endocrinologist (Hormone etc) specialist soon. I'm on Tramadol and pain-killers so muscles not tender. Thanks to Rebecca who directed me to this diagnosis!

FMS is NOT a Bone and muscle degeneratiove disease–it’s a disorder of teh central nervous system…. It’s thought that an illness, injury, or emotional stress can trigger the syndrome–the syndrome is already there, but dormant–the injury just allows it to activate PTSD and injury itself coudl be what is causing your sympoms—healing can be very physically stressful on your body– it may be fms or it may be PTSD/the injuries themselves

Your symptoms sound like mine, and I’ve CFS/Fibromyalgia. I refused antidepressants (prescribed for pain relief) as I feel 'foggy' enough without them. I’ve just given up eating dairy, and find my muscle pain and IBS have started to improve. Could just be coincidence, but if it's working I'm sticking at it. Good luck on all the tests, and I hope you have a sympathetic G.P.

Fibromyalgia is not caused by bad accidents, it’s a bone and muscle degenerative disease. I think you may have post-tramadic stress disorder. Some of the symptoms are the same.

I'm not an expert but it sounds like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (M.E). It can sometimes happen when you have been seriously ill or had a bad trauma.

Fibro unless your flaring at the moment won’t show in test, like a bone scan for instance. Fibro is a clinical diagnoses and it could possible be that and it can be caused from the car accident. I’ve had fibro since 1997, cant remember if i ever had night sweats, i do now I’ve problems with temp control, ie cold breeze trigger pain, total lack of tolerance to cool weather period and when its hot out my body temp is hotter. The PTSD could be the problem with the sweating. The symptoms your discribed could lead you and your doctor to believe fibro is the problem. I dont take anti depressants, i do take pain killers and thyroid medication, thats it. I did try all the drugs out there and none have helped. Now finding the right anti depressant to take with the pain med your on could help. My mother along with myself has RSDS, and Fibromyagia is a secondary thing to it and she takes anti depressants along with her pain meds and it does help her. Finding the right combo is the key and find a doctor that knows what this is and has treated others is another. You need to keep pushing yourself. Im in pain 24/7, pain i wouldnt wish on my enemy and everyday is a struggle. You need to slowly push yourself just past that i give up moment. Finding something to keep your mind off the pain and the other things that go along with it’ll help you. The point im trying to make here is don’t give up, don’t let this disease control your life if this is what you have. Know you’ll have good and bad days, so the bad days are more your still breathing and it could be worse. Just keep up the fight.

Has anyone tried Acupuncture for Chronic Fatigue/ME/Fibromyalgia? Hi, Just wondering if anyone has tried or is in the process of having acupuncture for the ease of symptoms of chronic fatigue and how they feel it’s working, if it’s?

  15. geneviev949

Hi, I'm having acupuncture for ME, for about one 1/2 years. In the beginning once every week, now once a month or so (due to finances). It's not gonna cure you from CFS/ME, but for me it helped in relieving symptoms. And because of that, it helped me to build up some energy again. Sometimes the symptoms itself can cost you lots of energy. Like for instance if you have trouble sleeping. But it also helped me against nausea, stomach troubles, hormonal imbalances, headache. I can never be sure how big the influence of acupuncture has been on my health! But my health now is a lot better then a few years ago, or even then just a year ago. I still have ME, but I do work three to four days a week and last winter I’ve spend ten weeks travelling through SE Asia. Only one year ago this seemed like impossible. Is it because of the acupuncture? I really wouldn’t know for sure. Maybe I’m just lucky, maybe it's the sum of more things. Like, for example, I really watch my energylevels and listen very well to my body. I try to keep a balance all the time, between being as active as is still safe (which I really had to build up very slowly), and take enough rest. But I know for sure that acupuncture does help in relieving some of the symptoms.

In my clinic, 70% to 80% of my fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue patients report moderate or better relief in their symptoms. They’ve less pain, more energy, and their mood improves with these changes. Do keep in mind that acupuncture is only one part of the treatment. Chinese Medicine incorporates herbs, acupuncture, diet, exercise, and more. If you decide to have Chinese Medicine treatments, I advise my new patients that four to six weeks of treatment is needed to gauge their response and to determine if further treatment is warranted. If at the end of four to six weeks there is no changes/improvements you may need to consider other options.
