Anyone with fibromyalgia have these type headaches? I get these horrible migraines that deaden one side of my face. It looks like I've had a stroke, seriously. I've had all the MRI's and tests, and I was diagnosed with cluster headaches, which the doctor said is a fancy way of saying they don't know what causes them. My problem is I get these 'muscle knots' starting at my hairline and they go in a straight line to the crown of my head. I swear, if I were bald I'd look like one of those Klingons on Star Trek. I also developed one to the side of my usual 'ridge', and the 2 fibro pressure points on the back of my head also have them now. They feel like bruises- I can't even brush my hair. I'm on muscle relaxers which seem to help (mostly because they just knock me out) but there's not really anything else they can do. I was told yesterday by my specialist it was the way my muscles and nerves work around my face and it was part of the fibro. Does anyone else experience anything like this? Does anything work that won't knock me out?

Yes, I’ve had the same thing for years. I currently take epidural steroid injections in my neck and lower back to control the pain. That being said, your doctor should know about new meds out there that can control fibromyalgia symptoms. I know that nothing works for headaches and the head pain associated with it. I’ven't tried any of the new meds, I just get the injections. I can't say for sure whether they’ll work for everyone. Nothing else works for me. But I’ve all kinds of back problems and soft tissue issues, that’s another reason I get the injections. Sometimes a cold pack works on the back of my neck. I really think Fibromyalgia needs a cure and soon. This pain is the same as cancer sufferers, and those with MS, and other serious diseases. There are 2 fibromyalgia websites to check out if you haven't already. Maybe they can help you. And Hope you find something that can help you. Good Luck !

I’ve Lupus. My Doctor diagnosed me w/ fibromyalgia ALSO. WHY? I’ve had SLE (lupus) for one year now and have been treated with cellcept and prednisone. At my last Dr. Appt., my doctor diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. She did no tests or anything. How does she know? I played football for six years(many injuries)–I know I’ve a high pain tolerance. ****She said that because my joints weren’t swollen, I must be amplifying the pain!!***–(amplified pain is the definition of fibromyalgia-you interpret pain as being worse than a normal person) I’m really angry that my doctor would tell me that I'm just complaining–she's always telling me to tell her all my symptoms. IS SHE CORRECT TO GIVE ME THIS NEW DIAGNOSIS ON TOP OF MY PREVIOUS DIAGNOSIS OF LUPUS???????

Fibromyalgia often occurs in overlap with lupus. They’re both autoimmune. Fibro is usually diagnosed by having pain on symmetrical pressure points in the body. If you want to know how you doctor knows, ask the doctor. We don't know what your doctor was thinking or how the diagnosis was made. If you don't trust your doctor, get one you can trust. Lupus is too serious to be treated by a doctor with whom you don’t have an open and honest relationship. We dont' know if she was right because we don't know your symptoms and we don't know what information she used to make that diagnosis.
